A great quality antique pendant manufactured in 9ct gold. 

The charming and unusual pendant has been set with an opal doublet. 
Opal doublets are wedges of opal that have been cut to show off the most impressive part of the opal and are set on to a darker back that enhances the colours and creates a dramatic effect. The opal doublet exhibits wonderful flashes of red, electric blue and apple green. It is a fantastic look when worn.
Unusually, the reverse has a map of Australia with Australia stamped in the centre to state the opal's origin. This is all hand made.

Under magnification it shows the hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. 

Opal measures 11.2mm x 8.7mm.
 
The pendant measures 17.8mm x 12.2mm and 3.2mm in depth.
Bale measures 4.7mm in diameter. 

Weight 2.2g.

Stamped '9ct'. 

Dates from the early Edwardian period; circa 1900-1910.

CONDITION: Overall very good, with some very, very light wear commensurate with age.
