A lovely genuine piece of antique jewellery, it has a round sapphire set within a puffy heart in the centre of the brooch and has a rose gold floral leaf motif/design on either side. The centre section is hinged meaning it opens to reveal the Hebrew word 'Mizpah' engraved. Mizpah means “watchtower”. A loose definition is “May God watch over you,” and the jewellery is meant to be given as a token of either love or friendship.
Sapphire is a gorgeous blue.
Under magnification it shows the hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. A modern one would be cast in one piece, having little `definition` left after the casting process.
