Beautiful Antique Edwardian Opal 15ct Gold Articulated Pendant.

An Authentic Murrle Bennet piece from the Arts & Crafts period.

Founded by Ernst Murrle and J.B Bennett. They operated between 1896 and 1914.

They are particularly collected and sought after as manufacturers of Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts jewellery

Arts and Crafts jewellers avoided large, faceted stones, relying instead on the natural beauty of cabochon (shaped and polished) gems. They replaced the repetition and regularity of mainstream settings with curving or figurative designs, often with a symbolic meaning

This excellent example is manufactured in 15ct gold. There is an oval turquoise in the centre, set into the frame, also an articulated turquoise drop at the bottom.

Under magnification, it shows the hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. 

15ct gold was only a legal standard of gold in British jewellery between 1854 and 1931. This means that any piece of 15ct antique gold jewellery from Britain dates somewhere between 1854 and 1931 and you have a genuine piece of antique jewellery.

The principal turquoise measures 10.9mm x 7.1mm and 4.1mm in depth. 
Opal attached to the drop measures 9.1mm x 5.4mm.

Pendant measures 41.4mm x 18.2mm and 4.5mm in depth.
