Antique 15ct Prospectors Brooch / Cravat Pin.  English Circa 1880s.

The brooch is handmade, and consists of a pair of shovels, one set with an old European cut diamond, and a gold `nugget` in a panning sieve to the centre.

A fabulous piece of antique jewellery, rare to be manufactured in 15ct gold, most we see are only 9ct gold.

15ct gold was a legal standard of gold in British jewellery only between 1854 and 1931. This means that any piece of 15ct antique gold jewellery from Britain dates somewhere between 1854 and 1931, and you have a genuine piece of antique or jewellery.

These handmade miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. A modern one would be cast in one piece, having little `definition` left after the casting process.

CONDITION: Overall excellent, with some very light wear commensurate with age.

The settings are in good condition and can be worn every day (with respect!).
