Truly an Excellent Example of a Sought After Antique 15ct Gold Victorian Long Guard Chain in Mint Condition.
Remarkable survivor, full length in excellent order, no signs of alteration or repair, links still tight, faceted edges still pretty sharp.
Long guards are always tricky for us to photograph to their full potential - much better in the flesh.
Very useful and wearable antique chain is manufactured in 15ct gold using figure-of-8 links; and it has has the original `dog clip` (the spring is strong).
Stamped '15c'.
15ct gold was only a legal standard of gold in British jewellery between 1854 and 1931. This means that any piece of 15ct antique gold jewellery from Britain dates somewhere between 1854 and 1931 and you have a genuine piece of antique or vintage jewellery.
Its a rarity to have survived, under magnification it shows the handcrafting and hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. A modern one would be cast, having little `definition` left after the casting process and no character.
Shows little signs of wear, it is in remarkable condition considering its age (its 150 years old!), it is still perfectly wearable.
Presented in truly excellent original condition, traces of the original gilding still there between the links.
A highly useful article of antique jewellery that can be worn on its own, or attach a locket or pendant, fob or seal and can be wrapped around the neck twice.
The chain measures 60 inches in length. Equivalent to 152.4cm
The links are 2.7mm in width.
The chain weighs 35.3g.
Chain has a '15ct' tag soldered to the chain.
Harder and harder to find good old ones like this to show off your antique pendant or hang a locket or fob from.
CONDITION: Overall very good, with some very light wear commensurate with age.
This is a pre-loved antique item, making it an excellent value for your money compared to a new equivalent.
It has been ever so gently cleaned in our workshop.
