A Beautiful Antique 9ct Gold Cameo Brooch. Edwardian Period.

Unusual Subject, putti & maidens in a temple scene. It may be Venus playing the lyre.

A lovely genuine piece of antique jewellery, the oval hand carved shell cameo mounted in gold with a rope border.

I would imagine the cameo was brought home in Victorian/Edwardian times from a `Grand Tour` as a gift and subsequently mounted by the local jeweller 100 plus years ago.

Under magnification it shows the hand carving; these miniature works of art need to be studied and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. 

The mount is also hand made, a modern one would be cast, and have little definition.

Good size measuring 55.2mm x 44.3mm and 8.7mm in depth.

Also a good weight weight at 17.44g. 

Unmarked , tests 9ct. Circa Edwardian period.

Beautiful piece of estate jewellery, will look stunning against a blouse, tie, or cravat.


This is an antique item, making it an excellent value for your money when compared to a new equivalent. 
The settings are in good condition and can be worn every day (with respect!).
