Antique Art Nouveau Opal 15ct Gold Sickle Brooch
A fabulous piece of antique jewellery, very well manufactured in 15ct gold. The brooch is handmade and has 3 excellent quality oval opals within 15ct gold wirework to create a sheet of wheat with a gold bow attached.
Surrounding the opals is a sickle manufactured in 15ct gold.
The whole design is very flowing and organic, strong art nouveau.
Opals are a truly excellent colour, with flashes of green, pink and blue.
The sickle has many meanings throughout history and in Victorian jewellery.
The most common in this era were reaping the fruits of a good harvest, either literally, in prosperity or life, abundance and fortune.
A piece with positive symbolism, its roots in reaping a bountiful harvest so perfect as a good luck charm for channelling abundance and prosperity.
These handmade miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. A modern one would be cast in one piece, having little `definition` left after the casting process.
Oval opal vary in size, largest measures 5.0mm x 4.00mm and the smallest measures 4.4mm x 3.5mm.
Overall dimensions are 35.5mm x 19.7mm and 5.0mm in depth.
Weight 4.1g.

Dates from the Victorian, circa 1890/1900.
CONDITION: Overall very good, no dings or dents, original pin.(the pins are always 9ct - to be harder than 15ct)
This is an antique item making it excellent value for your money when compared to a new equivalent.
The settings are in good condition and can be worn every day (with respect!).
