Exquisite antique Austro-Hungarian `Renaissance Revival` turquoise and garnet earring and cross pendant silver gilt Suite in its original fitted case.
Genuine antique earrings and pendant set of Austro-Hungarian jewellery, circa 1880-1900; so rare to find today.
Fine quality designed in the Renaissance style of the 1500s – early 1600s, each made in silver gilt and set with turquoise, garnets and enamel.
The pendant resembles a cross and has a articulated bow attached to the top, it has a large cabochon garnet in the centre with 8 turquoise surrounding the stone; there is also 4 smaller garnets positioned on the edges of the cross, with red and white enamel flowers also on the cross. The bow is also set with a garnet and enamelled flower which has a turquoise in the centre.
The earrings are incredible difficult to describe so please look at the photos, each are set with 7 garnets and 14 turquoise.
All are manufactured in silver gilt, there is also hand engraved cross and spiral motifs to the backs of the earrings and the pendant.
Earrings use traditional original hinged Shepard's crook fittings.
Studying under magnification shows handcrafting and hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. A modern one would be cast in one piece, having little `definition` left after the casting process.
The garnets vary in size, largest measures 5.8mm in diameter and the smallest measures 2.1mm in diameter.
Turquoise also vary in size, largest measures 2.2mm in diameter and the smallest measure 1.6mm in diameter.
Pendant measures 60.7mm x 25.4mm and 5.0mm in depth.
Earrings measure 55.8mm x 14.9mm and 1.2mm in depth.
Combined weight 16.9g
Silver gilt, Austro Hungarian marks `A` (small goods) to the cross and `A` and `ER` to the earring wires.
CONDITION: Overall excellent, with some of the wear, being kept in its case has helped it survive in remarkable condition.
