Exquisite Antique Continental Old Mine Cut Diamond Gold Cluster Drop Earrings
These antique continental earrings date from the late 19th Century, circa 1890 - 1900, they are so rare to find today.
Fine quality earrings, each handmade with a diamond cluster and there is a old mine cut diamond suspended above. The clusters consist of one large old mine cut diamond in the centre and 10 smaller old mine cut diamonds arranged around the principal stone in a daisy cluster.
They have secure wire and hook fittings.
The diamonds are held securely in place by claws.
Before the advent of modern machinery which allows for the precise faceting we see today, old mine cut diamonds were polished into shape, rather than cut meaning they carry a unique character and charm, unparalleled against their modern counterparts.
Studying under magnification shows handcrafting and hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. A modern one would be cast in one piece, having little `definition` left after the casting process.
Sure to become a favourite `go-to` evening/drop pair, they really are a rare find, now looking for a new `forever home`.
The central old mine cut diamond measures 3.0mm in diameter. The outer diamonds measure 1.7mm in diameter.
Diamonds above the cluster measure 2.4mm in diameter.
Total carat weight of approx. 0.80 carats.
Cluster measures 9.4mm in diameter and 7.5mm in depth.
Overall measurement of approx. 23.8mm x 9.4mm and 8.3mm in depth.
Combined weight 4.7g
