Antique Diamond, Sapphire and Ruby Shepherd's Crook brooch in 15ct Gold.
A highly exquisite piece of antique jewellery, depicting a shepherd's crook, (or rod or staff) with a diamond, sapphire and ruby.
Under magnification it shows the hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. A modern one would be cast in one piece, having little `definition` left after the casting process.
Brooch also has a superb weighty gold safety chain attached.
Traditionally a rod in antique jewellery symbolised – comfort in time of need or show guidance.
15ct gold was only a legal standard of gold in British jewellery between 1854 and 1931. This means that any piece of 15ct antique gold jewellery from Britain dates somewhere between 1854 and 1931 and you have a genuine piece of antique or vintage jewellery.
Diamond, sapphire and ruby all measure approx. 3.00mm in diameter.
Dimensions are 63.8mm x 7.6mm.
Weight 5.8g.
Genuine Victorian brooch, the use of red, white and blue gemstones may possibly mean it was manufactured for Queen Victoria's jubilee.
CONDITION: Overall very good, with some very light wear commensurate with age.
