Antique Edwardian 9ct Rose Gold Floral Locket and Ornate 9ct Gold Chain with Engraved Lozenge Links.
Very rare to have survived with its original chain.
Genuine Edwardian Piece, dated 1907.
Manufactured in 9ct rose gold, the front of the locket has a plain round cartouche in the centre and an engine-turned design surrounding it; additionally, there is a rose motif around the locket's edge. The reverse is also profusely decorated with the engine-turned design and floral motif..
I have seen one or two before over the years, but normally engraved /personalised to mark an occasion, this one escaped unscathed!
It opens to reveal two compartments for photographs.
The locket, which has its original period chain attached, is also manufactured in 9ct gold and has an antique barrel clasp. It has 6 ornate lozenge links interspersed between them. Each is profusely hand engraved with a floral and star motif, and each is different.
It's a rarity to have survived, all intact with its original fittings and in this condition, traces of the original gilding present and on its original gold chain.
Under magnification it shows the hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character.
The locket measures 37.1mm x 25.7mm (not including bale) and 7.3mm in depth.
Bale measures 4.2mm in length.
The chain measures 20 inches in length. Equivalent to 50.8cm.
The locket and chain weighs 10.9g.
UK hallmarked 9ct gold. Dated Chester 1907.
CONDITION: Overall good, with some very light wear commensurate with age.
