Antique Amethyst and Natural Split Pearls 15ct Gold Bar Brooch, Tie or Cravat pin.
A lovely genuine piece of antique jewellery, it has a round amethyst in the centre with 6 natural split pearls above and below the centre stone. There are a further 14 graduated pearls along the centre on either side of the principal stone.
Amethyst is a gorgeous deep purple whilst the pearls are all a good even colour.
Under magnification it shows the hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character.
A modern one would be cast in one piece, having little `definition` left after the casting process.
The centre stones are 'millgrain set' (From the French word mille for a thousand, and from grain as the same meaning in English, it refers to what appears to be thousands of tiny beads upon a metal precipice or edge), whilst the graded pearls are claw set.
15ct gold was only a legal standard of gold in British jewellery between 1854 and 1931. This means that any piece of 15ct antique gold jewellery from Britain dates somewhere between 1854 and 1931 and you have a genuine piece of antique or vintage jewellery.
Amethyst measures approx. 5.5mm in diameter.
Pearls vary in size, the largest measures 2.4mm and the smallest measures approx. 1.3mm in diameter.
Dimensions are 46.9mm x 15.2mm and 6.3mm in depth.
Weight 3.8g.
Stamped 15ct.
Beautiful piece of estate jewellery will look stunning against a blouse, tie or cravat.
This is an antique item making it excellent value for your money when compared to a new equivalent.
The settings are in good condition and can be worn every day (with respect!).
