Antique Platinum & 15ct Gold Old European Cut Diamond Lavalier / Negligee Pendant. Circa 1910

This beautifully designed example is manufactured in platinum and 15ct gold.

The old European cut diamonds are white and bright appraised at G/H colour and VS/SI clarity, and weighing approximately a quarter of a carat each. (0.5ct in total)

The style was popularised by the Duchesse de la Vallière, a mistress of King Louis XIV of France.

A lavalier can be recognized most for its drop, usually consisting of a stone and/or a chandelier pendant, which is attached directly to the chain, not by a bail.

An articulated bar joins the diamonds, allowing movement on the neck so they sparkle in the light.
 
Under magnification, it shows the hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to appreciate their character fully. 

The diamonds measure approximately 4mm each.

The drop itself measures 35.6mm in length and x 5.2mm in width.

The platinum chain measures 17 inches in length. Equivalent to 43.1cm

Weight 5.5g.

Unmarked tests platinum and 15ct gold.
