Beautiful Antique Old Mine Cut Diamond Brooch. English C.1850. Gold back, Silver settings.

A truly unique survivor.

A fabulous piece of antique jewellery. Hand manufactured in gold and silver and has a mixture of old European cut, mine cut and rose cut diamonds which epitomises the very best in Victorian design and craftsmanship. Circa 1850/1860.

A master craftsman would have made this by melting the silver and gold by hand at a bench and working the metal into beautiful flower shapes.

The diamonds are well matched, clean, white and bright and all original.

No signs of repair or alteration.

Under magnification it shows the hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. 

Diamonds vary in size, largest measures 3.7mm in diameter and smallest measures 1.4mm in diameter.

Estimated total diamond weight is minimum of 3.5 carats. We have been conservative in our estimate.

Original leather tooled box, showing a little sign of wear, but has kept the brooch in superb order.

Overall dimensions are 49mm x 35mm.

Weight 11.8g.
