Exquisite Antique Victorian Old Mine Cut Natural Diamond 18ct Gold and Silver Drop Earrings.

This genuine Antique pair dating from the Victorian period, circa 1870-1880,  they are so rare to find today.

Fine quality, each handmade earring has been set with old mine cut diamonds in clusters with two rub over set diamonds above. 
The clusters consist of one old mine-cut diamond in the centre and 6 smaller old mine-cut diamonds arranged around the principal stone in a daisy cluster; when worn they articulate beautifully. 
The diamonds are silver fronted with gold on the reverse; this was the normal practice during this period as it predates the use of platinum and white gold settings.
When worn they sparkle in a special way as only old mine-cut diamonds can. 
All are hand-made and soldered, even the fittings have hand-made hinges - they truly are a rare find.

Studying under magnification shows handcrafting and hand soldering; these miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. The central old mine-cut diamond measures 2.0mm in diameter. The outer diamonds measure 1.8mm in diameter.
Diamonds in the drop vary in size, the largest measures 3.2mm and the smallest measures 2.9mm in diameter. 
Calculated total diamond weight approx. 1.50 carats.

The cluster measures 8.3mm in diameter and 4.0mm in depth.
Overall measurement of approx. 28.6mm x 8.3mm and 4.0mm in depth.
 
Combined weight 3.1g 

Unmarked, test 18ct gold and silver.
 
CONDITION: Overall excellent, with some of the lightest of wear.
