A particularly fine all original example, one of the best I have seen.
The locket hallmarked Birmingham 1882, the chain/collar hallmarked Birmingham 1898. Its unusual to find a fully hallmarked chain.
The beautifully hand decorated locket measures 45.0mm x 36.0mm 6.7mm deep. (excluding the pendant loop) and is decorated with a bird in a floral scene.
Symbolic bird jewellery usually features Swallows or Doves. Swallow Birds were a very romantic symbol in antique jewellery, representing faithfulness and wanting your loved one to return home safely.
The chain or `collar` is also beautifully decorated on one side (the reverse is plain, and it can be worn both sides.)
Chain Length 18.5 inches or 47cm, width 13.3mm at the widest point.
Chain Hallmarked 1898, all frames and interior is present, the hinge is good and tight, and it `snaps` shut as it should.
Excellent weight 78.7g
Sure to become an heirloom.
