Antique French Early 20th Century 18ct Gold and Platinum Cross set with Diamonds and Calibre Sapphires in Original Case
(CHAIN NOT INCLUDED).
This finely detailed and very impressive cross is crafted in 18ct gold with a platinum front and dates from the early 20th Century, circa 1900-1910.
In the centre is a large old European cut diamond with calibre cut sapphires arranged in a cross around the principal stone.
The sapphires are surrounded by a mixture of old European cut diamonds and rose cut diamonds set within a pierced spiral design within fine 'millgrain' decoration around the settings of the gemstones (from the French word mille for a thousand, and from grain as the same meaning in English, it refers to what appears to be thousands of tiny beads upon a metal precipice or edge.)
Additionally, the bale has also been set with a large European cut diamond.
It looks spectacular when worn.
The principal stone measures approx. 4.3mm in diameter and weighs approx. 0.30 carats.
Outer diamonds vary in size, the largest measures approx. 2.3mm whilst the smallest measures approx. 1.3mm in diameter.
Diamonds have a combined estimated carat weight of approximately 2.0 carats.
Sapphires vary in size, the largest measures 3.3mm x 3.0mm whilst the smallest measures 2.0mm x 1.7mm.
Overall the cross measures 52.7mm x 32.1mm (not including bale) and 4.8mm in depth.
Bale measures 6.4mm x 4.1mm.
Continental import mark for 18ct gold.
Weight 8.8g.
CONDITION: Overall good, with some light wear commensurate with age.
This antique item is excellent value for your money compared to a new equivalent.
The settings are in perfect condition and can be worn every day. It has been professionally cleaned in our workshop.
