This Antique 15ct gold amethyst and pearl necklace is a remarkable example of the fine craftsmanship characteristic of the late Victorian and early Edwardian periods. It has endured over a century, standing as a testament to the meticulous artistry and quality of materials used in its creation.
The piece is adorned with intricate scrollwork, enhanced by mille-grain finishing—a technique that adds delicate beading along the gold edges. This subtle detailing softens the contours, giving the scrolls a refined and elegant texture while accentuating the piece’s overall sophistication. The pearls, carefully nestled within the gold framework, exude a gentle luminosity, harmonising with the rich purple hues of the amethysts.
The amethyst settings are equally impressive, with mille-grain detailing along the edges, framing the gemstones in an ornate, protective embrace. This technique was favoured during the era not only for its decorative appeal but also for its ability to secure the stones effectively, ensuring their stability through generations of wear.
The fact that this necklace has survived in such excellent condition speaks to both the skill of the jeweller who crafted it and the care it has received over time. It remains an exquisite representation of antique jewellery design, carrying with it the elegance, history, and artistic legacy of a bygone era.
