Vintage 15ct Gold, Bloodstone, and Agate Swivel Watch Fob / Seal. Circa 1860/1870.

These handmade miniature works of art need to be studied, and you need to know the manufacturing process to fully appreciate their character. A modern one would be cast in one piece, having little `definition` left after the casting process.

The Watch fob is back-to-back set with oval polished Bloodstone on one side and Agate on the other

Bloodstone, sometimes known as heliotrope, is particularly fascinating from a mineralogical perspective. It is a variety of chalcedony, which in itself is a microcrystalline form of quartz composed primarily of silicon dioxide (SiO₂).

Agate is a banded variety of chalcedony. Agate stones are characterized by alternating bands of different coloured chalcedony and sometimes include macroscopic quartz

The bloodstone measures approximately 9.40mm x 11.80mm
